How to log an approach in Run Game
To log an approach in Run Game, open the Improve tab and tap Success or Rejected at the bottom. A sheet opens where you set two ratings from 1 to 10, optionally add a name and a note, and press Save. Both outcomes count as approaches. A moment where you hesitated and didn't approach isn't logged.
Where logging lives
Improve is the tab on the far right of the tab bar. The two big words at the bottom of the screen, Success and Rejected, are the controls. The same two words appear on the session screen while a session is running, so you can log from either place. Above them, a doorway in the middle of the screen shows today's count, split into success and rejected.
Logging needs an account. Someone who is only looking around as a guest is asked to make one when they tap Success or Rejected.
What the log sheet asks for
Tapping Success or Rejected opens the sheet immediately, and nothing is logged until you press Save. At the top it shows the outcome and a time, which is the moment you tapped. Then:
| Field | Required? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Name | No | Up to 40 characters. Who, or a label you'll recognize |
| Her rating | Yes | A light bar from 1 to 10 |
| My performance | Yes | A light bar from 1 to 10 |
| Notes | No | Up to 1,000 characters |
Save stays disabled until both ratings are set. Cancel, a swipe down or a tap outside closes the sheet and logs nothing, so you can back out of a tap you didn't mean.
The sheet doesn't define what a 7 means, so the scale is yours. A rule of thumb that keeps the numbers useful is to decide once what the ends look like and stick with it. For example, "My performance" could mean how well you said what you meant to say, regardless of the result. The point is that a 6 next month means the same as a 6 today.
The bars also colour the log. A success gets warmer as her rating goes up, and a rejection gets warmer as your performance goes up. That colour is the log's light in your room on Improve.
Choosing Success or Rejected
Run Game has two outcomes, and you decide which one fits. Both are approaches. Your success rate is successes divided by successes plus rejections, so choosing honestly is what keeps it meaningful. (The success rate explainer has a worked example.)
If you hesitated and didn't approach, don't log it as either. Write it in a session's notes or your own notes app instead.
After you press Save
- The log is saved on your phone first, then uploaded. With no signal it waits and uploads later. See using Run Game offline.
- A short light moment plays and today's count ticks up.
- A line reads "Logged: Success" or "Logged: Rejected" for about eight seconds. Once the log is on the server, a Share link appears beside it.
Share doesn't post anything on its own. It opens the forum composer in Field reports with a draft linked to that log. The draft shows the outcome and your performance rating, and puts your note under "What happened". The name you typed isn't carried over, and you can edit everything before you post. How to write a field report covers what makes one useful.
Fixing a mistake
Saved logs can be deleted. Open Improve, tap Stats, tap Recent logs to open the list, and press Delete beside the log. A sheet asks you to confirm and says "This can't be undone." There's no Undo on the logging screen itself.
The Stats list doesn't edit a saved log's rating, name or notes. If one is wrong, delete it and log it again. One thing can be added later: on a Success, Recent logs shows "What happened next?", where you pick how far it went (got number, texted, date set, went on a date, dating). That never changes whether it counts as a success.
A 30-second routine
- Walk a few steps away from the conversation.
- Tap the outcome.
- Set both bars quickly, going with your first read.
- Type one line in Notes: where you were, what you opened with, one thing to change. What to write in an approach note has templates.
- Save.
Fast beats thorough here. A log with two bars and no note still counts, and you can add context in the session notes later.
What to do next
- Open Improve and read the sheet once by tapping Success, then Cancel. Nothing is saved.
- Pick your own meaning for each end of the 1 to 10 bars and write it in your notes app.
- Log your next approach within five minutes of it ending, with a one-line note.
- Check Recent logs in Stats to see it listed.
- Read the bigger picture in how to track your progress in Run Game and why tracking your approaches helps.
